SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM

 

Alaska Airmen’s Association, Inc., annually awards three (3) individual $2500 scholarships to promote professional development and aviation careers. Scholarships will be awarded in the fall of 2005.

 

The $2500 John P. Culhane Memorial Scholarship, originally created in 1991 to honor John (Jack) Culhane’s  outstanding personal contribution to Alaska’s aviation community, will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in professional piloting. The funds may be used to obtain a private pilot certificate or any advanced ratings needed as the student works to obtain his or her commercial pilot rating or ATP.

 

The $2500 F. Atlee Dodge Maintenance Scholarship, is named in honor of long-time Alaskan, F. Atlee Dodge. For over 60 years, Dodge has contributed engineering, design, fabrication and certification of aircraft parts to accommodate Alaska’s unique flying conditions. This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career as an aircraft maintenance technician, including those currently enrolled in an accredited airframe & power plant (A&P) program at an approved FAR Part 147 school. 

 

The $2500 Bob Reeve Professional Aviation Management Scholarship, commemorates Pioneer pilot Bob Reeve’s well documented contribution to Alaskan Aviation. Reeve Aleutian Airways successfully provided passenger, freight and mail services to the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian, Shumagin, and Priblof Island. Reeve Aleutian Airways served Alaska for nearly 70 years. The successful applicant will be awarded $2500 to continue his or her educational goal of a career in aviation management. It can be also be applied to aviation operations, safety, education, training, scheduling, dispatching and law.

 

DEADLINE FOR AIRMEN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS IS SEPTEMBER 30, 2005.

 

 

2005 Scholarship Eligibility Requirements & Selection Criteria

 

Eligibility Criteria

1.          Applicant is enrolled in an aviation related program to an accredited college, university, trade school, approved training center (Part 61, Part 141), or in current training with a certified  flight instructor or A&P Mechanic.

2.          Applicant has completed at least 4 semesters or 25% of the work toward the chosen goal, ie., Commercial Pilot License or A&P Certificate.

3.          Applicant intends to use training to work in Alaska.

4.          Applicant has maintained a minimum GPA of 2.5 or if not enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school can provide letter of recommendation from current instructor attesting to commitment of student to applicable training endeavor.

5.          Applicant has no felony convictions.

 

Selection Criteria

Scholarships will be awarded weighted on each of the following:

1.                             Commitment to aviation goals

2.                             Interest in general aviation in Alaska

3.                             Evidence of financial need

4.                             Personal and career goals

5.                             Community involvement

6.                             And other criteria as determined by the scholarship selection committee.

BASED ON THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS AND CRITERIA.***

Disbursement of funds is made directly to educational institution or training facility specifically for payment of tuition,
flight-training, specified labs, books or training manuals only.

All funds must be used within 2 years of award.

 

All applications must be postmarked on or before September 30, 2005.
Late applications will be returned to sender without consideration.
